Description
Smart, sharp security that sees in the dark and knows what matters. The Hikvision DS-2CD2021G0-LIU is a 2MP IP bullet camera with Smart Hybrid Light and built-in AI — giving you clear footage, colour night vision and far fewer false alerts than a basic camera.
Why you'll love it
- Crisp 1080p footage — 2MP resolution paired with a wide 2.8mm lens comfortably covers a room, a shop floor, an entrance or a driveway
- Never truly dark — Smart Hybrid Light intelligently switches between infrared (for discreet monitoring) and warm white light (for full-colour night footage), so you're never stuck with unusable grey images after dark
- Knows people from movement — built-in human & vehicle detection means the camera only flags what matters, cutting out the endless false alarms triggered by pets, moving branches, rain and shadows
- Hears as well as sees — an integrated microphone records real-time audio alongside the video for a fuller record of events
- Kind to your storage — efficient H.265+ compression roughly halves file sizes versus older cameras, so you keep far more days of recordings on the same hard drive
- Weatherproof (IP67) — sealed against rain and dust for reliable outdoor use
Colour night vision that actually identifies people
The Smart Hybrid Light is what sets this camera apart from a budget model. In infrared mode it monitors quietly in the dark; the moment you want detail — or motion is detected — the warm white light kicks in and you get full-colour footage. Colour matters: it's the difference between a grey silhouette and being able to describe what someone was wearing or the colour of their vehicle. Combined with the built-in AI, the camera also learns to ignore harmless movement, so your phone isn't buzzing every time a cat walks past.
How it fits your CCTV system
This is an IP (network) camera. It connects to a Network Video Recorder (NVR) and is powered over a single network cable using PoE (Power over Ethernet) — so one cable carries both power and video, keeping installation clean and tidy with no separate power supply at the camera. For a full system you'll want an NVR with enough channels and PoE ports, a hard drive sized to how many days of footage you want, and Cat5e/Cat6 cabling. You can also fit a microSD card in the camera for on-board backup recording.
Bullet vs dome — which should you choose?
This bullet shape is deliberately visible and points in an obvious direction, making it a strong deterrent — ideal for entrances, boundary walls, driveways and car parks where you want would-be intruders to see they're being watched. If you'd prefer a lower-profile camera that blends into a ceiling and is harder to tamper with (better for indoors, receptions and shopfront interiors), look at the matching dome version.
Perfect for
Homes, shops, offices and small businesses building or expanding an IP CCTV system — at entrances, along boundary walls, over driveways and covering parking areas.
Placement & installation tips
For the widest, most useful coverage, mount the camera about 2.5–3 metres high and angle it slightly downward so it captures faces rather than the tops of heads. Point it away from direct sunlight and bright lights where possible to avoid glare, and keep the lens clear of spider webs and overhanging branches that can trigger the night-vision light unnecessarily. Run the single PoE cable back to your NVR or PoE switch, and frame the shot so the most important spot — a gate, front door or till point — sits in the centre of the picture where detail is sharpest.
Questions people ask
Do I need a special recorder? Yes — an NVR (network video recorder) with a spare PoE port. We can recommend one to suit the number of cameras you're running.
Does it need a separate power supply? No — with PoE, the network cable powers the camera. A non-PoE setup would need a 12V DC supply.
Can it record in colour at night? Yes — Smart Hybrid Light gives full-colour night footage when the white light is active.
Is it weatherproof? Yes — it's IP67 rated for outdoor rain and dust.
Good to know
- IP / network camera — connects to an NVR, powered over one cable via PoE
- Add a microSD card or record to your NVR for continuous footage
- Backed by Hikvision's South African warranty — not sure which recorder or cabling you need? Ask us and we'll spec the full kit
