How an OTDR Launch Cable Works
The launch cable is connected between the OTDR and the fibre link under test. Its additional fibre length allows the OTDR to measure the first connector after the instrument`s initial dead zone, making it easier to assess near-end insertion loss and reflectance.
When used together with an appropriate receive cable, the setup can also assist with measuring the far-end connection and overall fibre link performance.
